Normal in a Covid World

By Lisa Reynolds

He tells me
it’s normal to feel anxious
everyone is these days.
I want to believe him
but as his pen dances
across a thick prescription pad
I wonder if I’m the only one
barely hanging on.

Lisa Reynolds is a Canadian writer of poetry and short stories. Her creative works focus on injustices in life and the complexities of human behavior. She is published in several print and online publications. She lives in a waterfront community east of Toronto, Ontario.

I wrote “Normal in a Covid World” to address anxiety in uncertain times and to acknowledge how lack of control over circumstances can influence perspective.

Through personal reflection and virtual communications with others, I have discovered I am not alone in my struggles. Maintaining a positive outlook while witnessing suffering is a challenge for many.

It is my sincere belief that we will emerge stronger and more empathetic after Covid because of what we have endured together.

I love how economically this delivers the punch at the end. A small, muscular poem.

Great poem Lisa. It reflects how we all feel in this confusing and crazy time. You say it all in just a few words.
