Thelma and Louise in an Age of Covid

By Julie Allyn Johnson

Julie Allyn Johnson participates in several poetry groups.  Her poetry has appeared in a number of publications including Lyrical Iowa, Chestnut Review, Coffin Bell, The Loch Raven Review and Typishly.

This is a poem I wrote last summer thinking about how upside-down our world (literally!) has become in the wake of this terrible, horrible pandemic.  I wanted to have some ‘fun’ in its wake, if such a thing is possible, and write a poem about how a beloved classic would have been turned on its ear if it had been produced during these norm-shattering years of 2020 and 2021.

A tale of two Harveys, and still two gutsy girls meeting life on their own terms. Nice job! Leads me to reimagine other classics.

I love it! Really love the line about Brad Pitt.
