Sharal

By Marcia Carter

She sits on the sea serene,
bobbing about by the shore.
Fenders safe, tied on and tight
hanging, protecting her hull.
Waiting on the waves for crew
to all get on board the boat.
Oh, if only we could sail
to take her out of harbour.
Not moving from her mooring.
We are confined by covid.

I am currently studying Creative Writing as part of an Open Degree. I wrote this poem about not being able to go out to sea during Covid. I walk past the boats every morning or evening on my daily walk, unable to visit or go out to sea. The boat looks lonely and unloved sitting on the water. I think of the day when we can sail out to sea.
