Headline: COVID Dead Buried in Potter’s Field, New York

By David Newkirk

David Newkirk is a retired attorney, currently pursuing a second life in the Master of Fine Arts program at the University of Missouri, Kansas City.

During the first US wave, many COVID victims were buried in New York City’s Potters Field. The core elements of this poem came to me in a 3 AM dream several days after I watched coverage of the burials. Their lives cannot have been meant to end this way. These words are a poor, but heartfelt, tribute.
