‘What New Forms’ came out of my initial hesitancy at writing in response to Covid; I felt conflicted by George Saunders’s advice to his writing students – did I have the words? Did I have the right? As soon as I heard instances of domestic violence had increased in the first lockdown I felt I had to try to reconcile the abstract advice of Saunders with the very real, tangible impact of lockdown on some women. The pandemic has blurred public and private.
I live in Norwich and teach at University of East Anglia, have two collections of poetry: Broadcasting (Gatehouse Press) and Borrowed (Smith/Doorstop) and I’m on the EACWP Board.
