The Pandemic of ‘Traditional’ Values

By Nemina Dickinson

Headlines.
Vaccine by Christmas.
It will all be over by Christmas.
School was hard enough.
The screen speaks.
5×2+7 x=4
Teaching me quadratic equations.
Telling me where I will find Bolivia on a map.
‘If I have two doses of the vaccine but one fails how many vaccines will have worked?’
This angry turmoil of supressed people,
These;
Wake up in the morning and get your banners.
Signs.
Shoes.
BLM.
LGBT+.
The racists, white supremacists, homophobes. rise.
Banners.
Signs.
Backwards thoughts.
‘No traditional’
‘we need to keep tradition’
But what is tradition if not an inability to move forward.
Women got the vote.
Slave labour somewhat abolished.
Our free.
Cadged.
Country.
In which I was not able to marry my lover until 2014.
Will 2021 be the year of dreams?
