By Graham Ramsden
The road is empty
The road follows the moor edge
Heather- clad hills surround it
Bright sunlight shines on it
The wind blows over it
Drains gurgle beneath it
Curlew, Skylark and Lapwing sing over it
Buzzard soars high above it
Rough grasses rustle
Returning Swallows sieve insects along it
Grouse warn Go Back Go back
Then silence

During the Covid period I have attended my poetry group on Zoom rather than in person in Hebden Bridge, Yorkshire. A different experience with attendees from around the country. In the group I usually use a photographic image to illustrate my poems.
Your poem evoked the sights and sounds of my wandering moorland walks during lockdown. I particularly liked the ending which I found powerful “Grouse warn Go Back Go back / Then silence.”
